For anyone who has not tried Reiki before and is perhaps a bit apprehensive about what is involved, please read on for some insights.
Firstly, I will always talk to my client before a treatment to ascertain any issues or areas of the body that need attention. A full session with myself will last an hour and during this time, the client will lie on a therapy table, fully clothed with a blanket and pillow to keep warm and comfortable. I usually recommend that anyone having a Reiki treatment wears comfortable clothing, something loose and elasticated rather than tight and restrictive.
I will work from the head down the body, placing my hands in correspondence to the chakras (energy centres) of the body. I use a combination of hands on and hands off healing, which means that at some points during the treatment, my hands will be above the body rather than on it - always respecting your personal space. I will usually play background music and have some candles burning during a session, to create a lovely relaxing ambience.
Everyone's experience when receiving Reiki is unique to them and indeed varies from session to session for the same person. Most clients however feel a deep sense of calm and relaxation and can find themselves dozing off at points. Sometimes people can feel emotions coming to the surface to be released and this is perfectly normal - Reiki works on the emotional level as well as the physical. Some find that any aches and pains have ebbed away during their session, and some people see colours, lights or patterns. I would say to come with an open mind and just let yourself experience whatever comes up for you, there is no right or wrong way to receive Reiki and you don't have to do anything except give yourself permission to relax and enjoy.
Whatever we discuss during a session is completely confidential and you can be assured of a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space when you book a treatment with me. My aim is for you to leave feeling completely calm and de-stressed, nurtured and revived. I will always suggest to clients to ease themselves gently back into the world and to have some chilled out time afterwards if possible, with some water or herbal tea to hydrate :)
I hope you have found this helpful. As ever, if you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me on email or via the contact form on my website and I'd be happy to help xx
